Photo chemical machining,
blanking, and etching
process advantages
1. Low cost tooling advantages:
Primarily done on a computer, and aided
by CAD/CAM software thus minimizing the expensive mechanical operations
costs.
2. Speed of delivery:
time = money.
Photo chemical machining
(PCM) & photoetching will save on both. Deliveries are typically 1-3 weeks.
3. Metal properties
integrity:
Metals properties and structure are
maintained as a unique advantage.
4. Design multiplicity:
Patterns requiring tighter tolerances
can be stepped and repeated on larger panels.Gang assembly can sometimes offer substantial cost savings.
5. Tooling modification:
Using
CAD/CAM software and computers, the photoetch design can be modified at a minimum
cost. Allowing the designer to prototype at a low cost and fast turn around.
6. Burring eliminated:
In PCM part configuration is maintained
without surface burr.
7. Prototype to mass production:
Because variables
such as: time and cost; prototypes usually are produced using different
manufacturing processes. Machined parts allow you to develop the design
quickly before going to mass production with stampings.
